Learn to Speak English Easily: Questions using ‘Did’

In the previous unit you have learnt to make Questions with ‘Do’ and ‘Does’ and in this unit you will learn to make Questions using ‘did’ and how to answer such questions.

We use ‘did‘ in questions to ask about the past. For such questions one can answer in the positive or in the negative. One can give a short or a detailed answer as given in the following example.

Did you watch the match?
Yes.
Yes, I did.
Yes, I watched the match.
No.
No, I didn’t.
No, I didn’t watch the match.

Did I return your book?
Yes.
Yes, you did.
Yes, you returned my book.
No.
No, you didn’t.
No, you didn’t return my book.

Exercise

Write both short and complete answers to the following questions and practice orally.

Did I sing well?
Did we do our duty?
Did you learn driving?
Did he beat you?
Did she finish her work?
Did the bus fall into the river?

Did the government issue the order?
