Learn to Speak English Fluently: Questions with ‘am’

We use questions beginning with ‘am’ to ask about oneself in the present.  For such questions, the other person can answer in the positive or in the negative. The other person can answer in any one of the ways, given in the following example.

Am I looking good? (To ask if one is looking good)
Yes. (When one wants to answer in one word)
Yes, you are.
Yes, you are looking good. (When one wants to answer in a complete sentence)
No. 
No, you aren’t.
No, you aren’t looking good.

Here are some questions and answers.

Am I driving well?
Yes, You are driving well.
No, you aren’t.

Am I looking tired?
Yes, you are looking tired.
No, your aren’t looking tired.

Am I eligible to apply for the job?
Yes, you are.
Yes, you are eligible to apply.

Exercise: Answer the following questions in any one of the ways using the above examples.

Am I a good singer?
Am I a doctor?
Am I a teacher?
Am I late?
Am I right?
Am I presentable?
Am I speaking well?
Am I disturbing you?
Am I doing the right thing?
